HEALTH & SAFETY

  • The aim of health and safety is to prevent people from being harmed or becoming ill through work. Health and safety law states that we must not put ourselves, other workers or members of the public in danger.

Health and safety law applies to all businesses, whatever the size. It covers all employees, whether full or part time, permanent or temporary, work experience, apprentices and charity workers.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Health and safety is another of those areas, like Redundancy/ Dismissal, where smaller businesses tend to take shortcuts. It’s not advisable. Not only are you placing your staff placed at risk, but co-workers and members of the public may also find themselves in harm’s way.

Extremely high compensation claims may be the result of proven negligence on your part. And when you remember that Health & Safety is dealt with under criminal, not employment, law it becomes essential to make sure you are fully compliant with the latest requirements. You have a duty of care for the safety all individuals associated with your business and as a business owner have a duty to carry out regular risk assessments.

It makes excellent business sense too, as regardless of your number of employees, being able to demonstrate a proper health and safety structure is an important part of any tender in a bid to win new business. Especially if your prospective client operates in the public sector.
